LEAD FEARLESSLY – Where will God lead you?

Where will God lead you?

And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”  — Nehemiah 4:14

Whenever we speak of fear, we must begin with an acknowledgement that we are fearful. Fear can be small, limited to certain things in life that don’t occur often. But fear can also be crippling, something that can cause great anxiety and distress, often preventing us from making any kind of decisions for life.

Being fearless, then, is something that may sound great or may be an attribute to which we assign others but it seems completely out of reach for most of us. And for the people that we think are bold or brave, that is often just a mask for their real fear. So how can anyone truly live without fear?

When love becomes the driving force behind our actions, then we can begin to live fearlessly. Consider for a moment a parent with a child in danger, maybe running into traffic on a street. Most people on their own would consider the consequences of just running out into the street because there is an understanding that you won’t win in a confrontation with a car!. But the parent? There is no hesitation, no fear, no thought except to go after that child. In that moment, they are fearless.

Where does that come from? Well, it comes from the Father who pursues us without fear of rejection, isolation, unrequited love. Instead, He pursues us with intrepid and reckless abandon, all because of His great love for us. So great was His love that He would come, put on flesh and die for us. The mockery, the humiliation, the beating, the excruciating pain, all of these He met without fear because of His abounding love for us!

Because Jesus is our Good Shepherd, He leads us out into new territory, new experiences, so that we will rely on Him even MORE. He’s calling us to do the same with others, within our communities, our workplaces, our families. He’s calling us to lead fearlessly because He is the one leading and He reminds us: perfect love drives out all fear. So how—and who—will you lead?
