Financial Peace University classes begin Saturday, November 5th, at 8:30 AM

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”  — Matthew 6:24

When was the last time you were stressed about money? Yesterday? Today? Currently as you’re reading this? Do you avoid the topic of money or budgeting entirely simply because it immediately stresses you out? You are not alone.

In today’s world, money is king, lord and sadly, viewed as the savior to many of life’s problems. But that is in direct opposition to what the Bible teaches. Money isn’t king; Jesus is. Money isn’t our lord; Jesus is. And money definitely is not our savior; only Jesus is.

While it is easy to say those things out loud, it can be a different thing all together to live out those beliefs. Too often Christians today make choices as a result of money, despite what Jesus is telling them to do. Have you ever been in that situation? Have you ever known what the right decision is in God’s eyes but made another one due to money?

That leads to maybe the hardest question of all to ask ourselves: who is really in control in our lives? Is it God? Or is the ever-present dollar? Matthew 6:24 makes answering that question very sobering.

So, what are we to do about it?

First and foremost, pray. Our God created this world, created you and provided salvation for all of eternity. Now that we’ve trusted Him with that, it is time we trusted him with our day-to-day lives, including money, as well. Pray to that end.

Secondly, there are tools available to assist us in gaining control of our money, so we can put money back in its place where it should be – as a resource to be used for God’s glory vs. a god in and of itself. Financial Peace University, a course in Biblical financial stewardship, is one of those tools.

Financial Peace University (FPU) is a basic course in all things personal finance. It provides a road map to better understanding your money and how to utilize it, as well as a road map to financial freedom. FPU goes through budgeting and cash flow. It gets into tithing and how to pay off debt. It gets into more specific items such as insurance and mortgages. FPU does all of this with Biblical teaching in mind in an easy to follow format which includes a workbook, video training and small group discussion.

FPU is not a get rich class. There is no promise of material wealth in FPU or the Bible. FPU is a class designed to give you exactly what its title says – peace in the area of your finances.

On Saturday morning, November 5th, at 8:30 AM, Life Community Church will be kicking off its next round of Financial Peace University at the church office (67 Federal Avenue, Quincy). In an effort to expedite the class in advance of Christmas and the New Year, we will be streamlining the class from a typical 9-week course into a 6-week course. We will still go through all of the same material, but simply in a shorter period.

If you’re interested in FPU, you can sign up here. If the material cost is a concern, please contact either your MC leader or one of the pastors at Life Community Church and we will work something out. More information about what FPU entails, its benefits, etc. can be found on the FPU website here.

We’re called to follow God in all of life, and that includes in our finances as well. We hope you’ll join us for this valuable 6-week course on what it looks like to stop letting your money control you, and start letting God control your money.
