Men’s Breakfast: Saturday, October 8th
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. —Ephesians 4:11-17
Nothing beats a FREE breakfast! How often do you just get to stop and take time to share breakfast—and life–with a group of men? That question is rhetorical, as we know the answer is “not enough.” If we are to grow into mature, godly men, when need the encouragement of other men to help us in this endeavor.
On Saturday, October 8th, at 8 AM, the men of Life Community Church will be gathering for a breakfast at The Clam Box in Quincy. This is a time to not only catch up on how God is working in our lives, but to encourage each other in places where we’ve not yet matured into the men God has called us to be. Of course there will plenty of other free breakfast food, not to mention plenty of coffee and juice!
In this passage, Paul states quite clearly the importance of growing up into men, men that are sound doctrinally, that are wise, that have discerning judgement. As children, we do not possess any of these things. And what has unfortunately happened in our culture is that period from childhood to manhood has been drawn out, resulting in grown men still living as though they were children, being indecisive, riding the newest thing (even in Christianity), and simply unable to discern the calling God has placed upon them as men.
We are to be like Christ, giving ourselves up for the sake of others and for the glory of the Father. This comes from knowing Jesus, for we cannot be like Him unless we know Him, know His voice, and are obedient to His calling. It is like my children, for if I want them to emulate me, I must be in constant communication with them, they need to hear my voice over the noise of life that can so easily drown it out, and need to not only make decisions based up prayer and the Spirit’s leading, but also to explain to them how and why I do this. Christ has already done this for us; all we need to do is get to know Him (through His Word), listen to His voice (through prayer), live like He did (through the accountability of other men).
Join us, men, for breakfast as we “grow up” together, into the godly men to which God our Father has called us! Please take a moment to RSVP here for the Men’s Breakfast.
