PREPARING FOR LCC GATHERED – WEEK OF 5.31.15
This Week’s Message
This week, we continue our discussion of Biblical Community. Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35) The way we live in community with one another is a proclamation to the world all that God has done in our lives.
Isaiah 53:4-6 – Confession & Assurance
Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
“Worship is the strategy by which we interrupt our preoccupation with ourselves and attend to the presence of God. [It’s the] time and place that we assign for deliberate attentiveness to God …because our self-importance is so insidiously relentless that if we don’t deliberately interrupt ourselves regularly, we have no chance of attending to him at all at other times and in other places.” Eugene Peterson
