PREPARING FOR LCC GATHERED – WEEK OF 3.2.14

This Week’s Message

This week, we begin John chapter five.  John begins chapter five with a story of Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath, and his subsequent conversation with the religious leaders following the miracle. You can read the story here.

Listen to the previous messages from the Gospel of John series, here.

Confession & Assurance

This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season. Lent is a season of forty days of preparation and repentance as we anticipate Good Friday & Easter. We begin thinking this week towards Lent, asking God what he would require of us during this season. You can find out more about Ash Wednesday & Lent, here.

One of the ways we practice Lent is by reminding ourselves of the need for a regular posture of repentance and the grace offered through Jesus. Psalm fifty one is a great prayer of confession, repentance, and restoration from King David, following his sin with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11&12).

1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 51:1-2 (read the rest of Psalm 51)

Some of the songs we’ll sing include:
Love Came Down (Ben Cantelon)
Rock of Ages (
Augustus Montague Toplady and Dustin Kensrue )
All The Poor & Powerless (Leslie Jordan and David Leonard )
Oceans (Matt Crocker, Joel Houston and Salomon Ligthelm)
How Deep the Father’s Love (Stuart Townend)
Grace Alone (Dustin Kensrue)

Listen to “Rock of Ages” from Dustin Kensrue

Don’t forget, we’re “Packing the U-Haul” this weekend too!
